The End of the Line?
09.11.04 (9:08 am) [edit]
Sorry for so few rants recently. As the big 4-0 looms, my disposition for ranting is waning. It has now been more than seven months since we left Korea and to be honest, I am not that interested in Korea anymore. If the place wants to fuck itself, fine by me.
Slipping back into the real world has changed my outlook a lot. I now have a good job, a nice place to live and a salary that ESL teachers in Korea could only dream of. I now realise that the great majority of the people I worked with in Korea were down and out losers, unable to compete in the extremely competetive life that goes on here. I can understand going to Korea for a couple of years of wine, women and song but for the long term, it is simply a dead end. The mother of all dead ends.
I got a pay cheque yesterday and said to myself "why the fuck did you stay in Korea so long and make peanuts?" I mean, W2.0 for the honour of being shit on by a bunch of xenophobic fucks? Get real, people.
So, I am seriously thinking of formally ending the Rant. I started it as a way of countering the extremely biased Korean news media and venting my frustration at the way waygooks were treated in Korea. For that, the Rant has served its purpose. Korea will be communist in a few years and that will make the news and then it will be gone.
You see, Korea is an insignificant, pissant country, populated with the rudest people I have ever come across in all my travels. It had the chance to be a player in the internation scene but blew it. Now it, like this rant, will fade into obscurity.
It was, and is, time to move along.
Thanks for reading.

Lance Wilt
09.05.04 (2:54 pm) [edit]
Who is Lance Wilt? Well, Lance was a 23 year old killed in Iraq on September 3. Just a kid, really. Why did he die? Well, the people of the nation he was sent to "liberate" hated him. You see, nobody really likes having their nation invaded and occupied.
There have now been 981 Americans, mostly kids, killed in Iraq. We should see the 1,000 mark soon. America does not have the training, expertise or manpower to stabilise the situation in Iraq. The insurgants must know this. They will get stronger and bolder as time goes on. At the same time, America morale will decline, leading to more dead American kids.
There will be no memorial for Lance Wilt. Bu$h will not attend his funeral. Just another dead kid in a senseless war.
It took 57,000 dead American kids to get the message out that Vietnam was a disaster. I hope the message about Iraq takes less time and bodies.
