Back in the Saddle, again
04.21.04 (10:50 pm)   [edit]
By looking at the hit counter I see that I still get about 100 hits a day. I really thank readers for stopping by and apologise for not posting more often. The reason for the lack of material is simple: work! I am running off my feet here. Typically I teach eight classes at three locations in a day, Satruday, too. Good money but I leave at 8:30 am and return at 9:30 pm. Moreover, this kind of schedule is common for anyone here not on the government gravy train. Not that I am complaning at all.

I still follow the Korean news and let me say, things are going to shit just as I have forecast. The Korea Lies published this gem today:

Uri Triggers War on Newspaper Companies

Dind't take long, did it?

By Park Song-wu
Staff Reporter

And paid off by Uri to write this.

Rep. Shin Ki-nam of the Uri Party on Wednesday triggered a war against the country's powerful newspaper companies by saying it is time for the National Assembly to set up a press reform committee.

Reform, in Korean context: toss out the other guy's cronies and replace them with yours.

``It's time to think about establishing such a committee to check out problems in the newspaper industry,'' Shin told reporters.

The problem being that they do not toe the Dear Leader line. Time to fix that, Comrades!

The country's three major newspapers, Chosun, Joongang and Donga, have traditionally been critical of liberal forces in politics, maintaining a thorny relation with the Roh Moo-hyun administration.

Translation: The big three reported that Comrade Roh is a bombastic bumbling boob bent on betraying Korea to the Dear Leader. While this is true, it does not fit the Dear Leader's line and must be stopped. Traditionally, major newspapers the world over tend to be conservative in outlook, having benefitted from being on this earth a long time and having a real education, unlike the pack of hicks that now proport to "govern" Korea.

Former president Kim Dae-jung had once tried to reform the industry but his attempt ended in failure due to strong rejection from the media and the opposition parties.

He was also castigated by the Internation Press Association. Kommie DJ went so far to make the Chosun Ilbo president apologise in court for being critical of him. This while he was charged with tax evasion. I shudder to think how much Kommie extorted out of the guy to let him out of jail. This is Korean "reform," boys and girls.

Shin said the committee, to be comprised of lawmakers, media experts and civic activists, is necessary to reform the current newspaper industry, in which a few number of companies have virtually monopolized the market.

Translation: Payback time, heh, heh. And they accuse Hannara-dang as being fascists. Chun shut down the newspapers and now the Dear Leader will attempt the same. Wait for the Witch-hunts and denunciations that will come from this. The NGO's are the most militantly pro-Dear Leader and this is their time to get pay-back. I am willing to wager the "media experts" will come from KBS (already won over to the Dear Leader) and OhMylies. This is really scary shit!

He even cited the need for the Assembly to discuss ways of limiting shares of media company owners, which he acknowledged as the trickiest part of his reform plan.

Translation: We will expropriate them and give them to our Kwanju cronies. That they are pig farmers means nothing. How hard could it be to run a newspaper anyway? Besides, the Netizens seem pretty smart. They can use computers, eh?

``Even though newspaper companies are privately owned, it's not proper to let them alone and have unrestricted competition,'' Shin said. ``Compared to other countries, our newspaper market has less restriction, making the poor get poorer and the rich get richer.''

What the hell does that mean?

In addition, he talked about building up a joint delivery system. Currently, each company has its own delivery network. Small companies are struggling hard to extend their business due to their limited manpower.

You might thing of mobilising some of the millions of unemployed Netizens who sit on thier asses in PS Rooms because they are too proud to work. There are major papers in Canada and they all have thier own carriers so I don't see much of a problem.

This will be an interesting test of Korean democracy and one that I feel will fail. I really do think that the Dear Leader will manage to get the Chosun Ilbo banned and closed. It will be a sad day for Korean democracy but this will not be seen by the Dear Leader's supporters.

MARK THESE WORDS:

In a year, a free and critical press in South Korea will be gone. Only papers supporting the Dear Leader's ideas, such as the Korea Lies, will be permitted.

That is what "reform" means in Korea right now.

Continued Korean Self-destruction
04.15.04 (10:06 am)   [edit]
The Dear Leader Party had a pretty good success last night but hardly the "landslide" that was predicted. For one thing, only 60% of voters turned out and that sets a bad precident for Korean democracy, which is actively being undermined by the North. What is more, the Korean economy will continue to falter as few in business will want anything to do with South Korea now (Koreans incuded) because of the non-stop instability that has been going on for the last two years. The Korea Lies actually has a fairly decent (if somewhat biased) wrap-up:

Despite the people’s stern judgment against the obstruction of state management by the corruption-infested GNP, it is feared that the Uri Party would steer the new National Assembly of its own accord, as done by the opposition party, thus brewing another sort of political dominance.

Of course, the Dear Leader Party will steer Korea away from participating in the world and into Korean self-absorbtion. This is what the Dear Leader has spent the last 30-odd years preaching: Since Korea is the greatest nation in the world, the world must come to us, on our terms and pay homage. Further, have a look at the breakdown of seats; The Dear Leader Party has a Jeolla base and Honam, which is the economic engine of Korea, will now be persecuted. This all fits perfectly with the Dear Leader's plans to destabilise South Korea.

The issue of the soldiers’ deployment is expected to harass the Uri Party the most because civic activists and young people, the power base of Roh and his camp, are pressing ahead with their repeal. There are also a substantial number of Uri Party members who are supporting the abrogation, perplexing the government. Even though the recently worsening Iraqi situation is strengthening the opposing voice, the matter is not simple to handle because it is directly related with the development of the half-century strong alliances between Seoul and Washington.

Korea is now facing some strong medicine directly related to the 2002 Race Riots. Has SK played a little more diplomatically, it would have had some wiggle room in regards to the troop dispatch. Unfortunately for Korea, the huge excesses of 2002 pretty much painted it into a corner in regards to Bu$h's war. Now we will see just how much influence the Mob has. In fact, I think that Korea should not have anything to do with Bu$h's war and should end the "alliance" with the USA as soon as it can as Korea can never take responsibility for its own actions as long as it has Uncle Sam to blame.

These will be very interesting times to observe in Korea. Do not think for a minute that the Norks are not setting the agenda; they are.

This Week's Evening News
04.14.04 (3:42 pm)   [edit]
The evening news is getting much more interesting. Seems that Bu$h is getting a little jumpy about about Eye-raq. Of course, he does not give a shit about the American kids being killed for his stock portfolio. He is worried about the election. The US military-industrial complex is playing up "foreign fighters" as the cause. Yea, right, there have identified five 0ut of the thousands that they have killed so far. Hell, the US military is full of non-Americans.

There are a few basic questions Americans should be asking:

1. Do I want more war, more American kids getting killed for Bu$h and the draft?

Vote Bu$h in and you'll get it all.

2. How long will it take to surpass the death toll of 9-11?

At this rate, less than another six months.

3. Was this war based on a total lie?

Yes, it was.

4. Why are we in Iraq?

For Bu$h and Cheney's stock portfolio.

5. Why hasn't Bu$h attended a funeral?

Because he does not care about proles how get killed for him. They do not vote or contribute to the GOP.

The Evening News....
04.09.04 (10:45 am)   [edit]
Last night I watched, with great interest, the Evening News. Front and centre were various Bu$hite Clones repeating this mantra (think of 0hm-ohm).

"This is not Vietnam" "This is not Vietnam" "This is not Vietnam" "This is not Vietnam" "This is not Vietnam" "This is not Vietnam" "This is not Vietnam" "This is not Vietnam" "This is not Vietnam" "This is not Vietnam" "This is not Vietnam"

Then they trotted up Tommy Franks, who has the great pleasure of seeing his boys killed for absolutely no reason, say word for word, "This is not Vietnam."

Yea, right. This is EXACTLY like Vietnam. Look in a history book and find the chapter about Tet, more specificially Hue. It is an exact parallel, right down to the Marines getting killed and blowing the fuck out of the place to "save" it.

Iraq is Vietnam on a worse scale; instead of two factions trying to kill each other, Iraq has tons'o'em but mostly Shia and Sunni. As soon as America finally has enough sense to declare victory (again) and get out, Iraq will degenerate into a cesspool of civil war,

Which would suit America's interest perfectly, just like Beirut did Isreal in 1975. An Iraqi civil war would draw every whack-job camel jockey with a AK-47 from all over Arab-dom.

However, the Bu$ites are so transfixed on the oil (as are the corporations who pay to elect him) that it is not too likely this will happen until several thousand American kids are sacraficed in the name of America, Inc.

Iraqi Tet
04.07.04 (3:22 pm)   [edit]
As the great Dizzy Dean once said, "It is deja vu all over again." In this case, it is Tet, 1968.

After Saadam was captured, the Bu$hies once again declared victory. Yea, right, just like 1968. You see, Bu$h and his lapdog media do not want you to know this: what is going on in Iraq is planned, coordinated and has the single aim to kill enough Americans that the US public demands its boys come home.

The obvious truth is that the USA has neither intel, troops or the guts to take control of their Imperial Possession. There are very few in America that have any idea of Iraq's history of struggle against occupying powers.

You could substitute the word "Iraq" for "Vietnam" anytime in this post.

It seems that America needs a Vietnam every generation to see the danger that interventionism and imperialism poses. In 1968 the danger was "Communism" and in 2004 it is "Terrorism. " Except there has not been ONE SINGLE shred of evidence that Iraq was involoved in ONE SINGLE terrorist activity, EVER. Sure it gassed its own people but George I stood by and watched as long as Saadam slaughtered Iranians for him.

The parallels between Iraq and Vietnam are getting all too close; America sticks its nose into somewhere it really should not be and unleashes a swarm that it will not be able to contain. In Iraq's case, America will now unite every Moslem in the region against it. Today they are bombing one of Islam's most holy sites. Imgine how Bu$h would react if the Palestinians blew up the Church of the Nativity.

Mark These Words:

Thirty American boys have been killed in Iraq since Monday. The people of Iraq will realise that America does not have the people or guts to do what is needed to restore order. They will thus support anybody who can, religious fanatic or not. American deaths in Iraq will increase as the resistance to occupation grows.

And you think Bu$h cares about the American boys getting killed? Not one bit. How many funerals has Bu$h attended? None. Will anybody in his family die for oil? Nope.

You, loyal Bu$hites, are expected to do that for him.

UPDATE: Eight Koreans kidnapped. Better call the Shit Yogwan. Glad that Koreans are dying for Bu$h and Exxon, not Canadians.

The Shit Hotel
04.06.04 (10:54 am)   [edit]
Well, my blog is now moving into different directions as I see that there is a world outside Korea and a better one than that. We are having a fantastic spring here in Vancouver and I would never think of returning to Korea.

Today's topic is Iraq. If there was ever a monunental fuck-up on America's part, it is Iraq. The place is the Shit Hotel. America has no idea what it wants to do there, went there on a blatant lie and now has no idea how to get out. I find this all so ironic because the Americans I worked with in Korea (most twenty-something Bu$hies) assumed that the Iraqi people would swoon at their American masters' boots and await the rain of Whoppers and Big Macs. Haw, haw. People, even if they had a shitty leader, are not all that fond of having their country invaded and occupied.

I can just see how the Bu$hites will run the election campaign: we went to Iraq to fight terrorism. We are being attacked in Iraq. Our Way, the American (religious fanatic) Way, is the Only (religious fanatic) way, and thus, anybody who attacks us is a terrorist. We are fighting terrorism in Iraq and these terrorists would be attacking the homeland if we were not engaging them in Iraq.

Yea, right. Not one single person in the whack-job Bush administration could ever find a link between Saadam and terrorsim or WMD for that matter. Now they are focusing on "intent." Bin Laden must be laughing his ass off because America is expending huge rescources battling a force Saadam left in place instead of him.

Funny thing though: in the election ads running now, I have not seen ONE SINGLE refrenece to Iraq, WMD or terrorism. Every one has been on an anti-Kerry tax increase theme. Seems even the Bu$hies are at a loss on Iraq, except they want to stay and get the oil, eventually, anyway.

Not that the Bu$hies want to war to end. Bu$h was elected by big business and the ultra-wealthy to make them more wealthy. Bush is doing this by removing rules such as workplace safety. He wants to privatise all public services or even better, hand them over to religious fanatics who also voted for him. The cover of war allows him to get his agenda through without anybody noticing much because anything said against the Bu$h administration is "un-American." War is great for business and not too many people on food stamps own stock in General Dynamics. Besides, they do not donate to the GOP or even vote for that matter so they do not count in any equation.

The fact is that neither the Bu$hies or their supporters give a flyin' fuck if American kids get killed in their wars. Their children will never fight in them. That is left to people who do not vote anyway and certainly do not own Bechtel stock. Mark my words on this: a vote for Bush is a vote for the draft. The administration, if re-elected, will have to knock off another country to show how tough it is. The problem is there are not enough people in the Army to do it. What a perfect way to get the unemployed (and non-voting) masses off the streets! You can rest assured that not a single adminsitration member's kids will end up anywhere near a dangerous place, just like old AWOL himself.

It is often said that the simplest things are the hardest to understand. I wonder anyone in the Bu$h zone has ever asked "What the hell are we doing in Iraq and Afghanistan? What are we trying to achieve and how will we do it?" It does not seem to me what is happening now in Iraq is a very good use for the US Army. It is designed to swoop in, destroy and then engage the next target. Having in mired in a static role hardly seems like a good use for it. Seems that the threat of a highly moble and deadly military is bigger than one bogged down on the streets in Iraq.

The Shit Hotel. America is checked in and seems in for a long stay. Every fanatic with a gun in Iraq (which Wolfie says they can have) will now use it to shoot at any American they can. The Iraqi people now realise that America does not have the personel or training to maintain order. America missed the chance to get the UN to do it for them (that is another topic) and the Iraqi fighters will only get more bold now that they realise that America cannot do much to suppress them. That cannot be done with Stealth Bombers but I have no doubt that Bu$h will order a few more before November so Boeing ponies up a big cheque to the GOP.

And Bu$hite autobot flamers, name calling is hardly becoming.

Canada Observations
04.02.04 (10:19 am)   [edit]
The Vancouver I left ten years ago is a much different place than the one I returned to. Not worse and it most ways a lot better. It is visibly a much more wealthy place. The Sixties Abby Hoffman type pinkos that ran Vancouver City Council are finally dying off and some things are starting to get done. For example, a region wide transportation plan was recently, narrowly, passed. Guess which district opposed it? You got it..Vancouver and the left-over commies of the Sixties.

What is happening is that Vancouver City is more and more rapidly being left out of the party while All the Good Stuff gets built in the suburbs. A great example is Big Box Stores. The Pinko Mantra has kept them out of Vancouver, the idea being people shop in their community, this making the world a better place (think globally, act locally) by making sure every neighbourhood has Mr Hooper's Store. What has happened? Shopping in Vancouver absolutely blows. I do not have the time to go to ten little shops when I need groceries so on Saturday morning, the family and I get in the van and drive to Richmond and the Big Box Stores. Why, you ask? Because I can get everything I need in one stop, including the cheapest gas in town, at waaaaay lower prices.

Vancouver is so backwards the only time anything useful gets done the Hated Province foists it on them. Want some examples? Skytrain. What a great system. If you live along Lougheed or Kingsway, which about 50% of the population does, getting downtown by Skytrain is much faster than driving. But when it was announced in the early 80's, the Pinkos went wild. Announced concurrently was Expo 86, now credited with making downtown the beautiful community it is. Talk about sustainable communites? The West End is just that and no thanks to Pinkos. Who developed Granville Island, you may ask? A great place and one of the last bastions of FREE PARKING. Not the Vancouver Pinkos, the even more hated feds run this highly successful, and profitable, enterprise. As W.A.C Bennett so correctly said, "The Socialists couldn't run a lemonade stand in the desert."

Then there is housing. Accommodation in this city is wildly expensive. The only way people can survive in thed Lower Mainland is to rent suites in their houses. The only way for housing to be affordable is to allow higher density development. Richmond has allowed this and has a huge tax base. Thus, the public facuilities are truly excellent. Not Vancouver, which is mired in the Sixties. No high density in the East End neighbourhoods is allowed meaning that house prices are truly astronomical and services declining. The fact is, in 2004, the Ozzie and Harriet lifestyle is over. One person does not get 1000 square feet anymore. This leads to the absud situation where the Hated Province recognising the suites and applying building codes on them and the Pinkos still denying they exist.

I live smack-dab in the centre of Vancouver. Want to hear something funny? In the morning, there is now MORE traffic heading to the 'burbs than into the city. Why, you may ask? Because Vancouver has not allowed reasonable development to happen. The freeway stops smack at the Vancouver border. From where I live, I can be in Surrey faster than UBC which is less than half the distance.

I am also really disappointed with the native born Canadians. You would not believe the conglomeration of scuzz-buckets there are in East Vancouver and Surrey. Uneducated, unemployed, drunk and stoned. What do they have in common, you may ask? At least 90% of them are Caucasion and have been in Canada many generations. When the scuzz-bucket rent-a-mob shows up on TV they are ALL white. Does this reflect the domographics of my fair city? Not a bit. At least 80% of my area is non-Caucasion but 99% of the street-people, protesters and "social activists" are white. You know why? Because for new Canadians, this is the Promised Land. The kids I teach and almost all Korean and Filipino. Not for once second would any of them ever consider not striving to attain the best education they can and most of the parents are not rich at all. Instead of blowing their money on booze, cigarettes and drugs, they are blowing it on tutors like me.

This is not the reality the Canadian media is broadcasting. The faces you see on TV are overwhelmingly white as are the politicians. Crime stories centre in New Canadians when the vast majority of crime in Greater Vancouver is committed by whites (and most police are white, too). I could get into more detail but you get my drift.

What has caused this? I believe that it is the fault of Canada's entrenched white Elite, and this is not just conservatives. Socialists are even more resistant to change than conservatives. The white elites in British Columbia have themselves set up in highly paid places. They then hire other whites with no education and pay them highly to do menial jobs. The "health" care system is the prime example of this.

It is only a matter of time until New Canadians get tired of this and start entering the system. What I am worried about is that the system may not have the strength to survive, in a postive way, so many different cultures and ideas. I have a lot of hope, though.

Korea Lies or Korea Laughs?
04.02.04 (9:14 am)   [edit]
Greeings Readers,

Alas, my blogs are getting rarer and my Korean experience wears off and my workload here in Canada gets larger. However, I could not help but laugh out loud today when I read this in the Korea Lies:

It has also belatedly been revealed that Chung Dong-young, chairman of the de facto ruling Uri Party, made a speech deprecating aged people, thus sparking harsh criticism from the general public and political parties.

Love that one...de facto ruling Uri Party. Hmmm, doesn't Hannara-dang still hold the majority of seats and the election is two weeks away? The polls, though spun but the leftist media as a Dear Leader Party fait d'accomplait, are hardly that favourable. In fact, the "no opinion" response is the largest group.

Advice to Chun Dong-young: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, and more more NEVER piss-off the old folks at election time. They are the ones with the bucks and time to throw you out. They are the ones who can see the larger picture because they have been looking at it longer. Want an example? Lyin' Brian Mulrooney pissed off the seniors when he, get this, tried to de-index the OAP! Thankfully, that even ended this political career. One more thing: jusy because someone is old, it does not mean they are dumb.

There was time that the Korean English media made an effort, and Arirang still does, to present its readers the idea that Korea was somehow a mature nation and the media was equally so. I suppose we should be happy this fiction is no longer maintained.
